Scriitorului rus (sovietic) Boris Pasternak i-a fost acordat premiul Nobel pentru literatură în 1958, pentru romanul "Doctor Jivago", care nu fusese publicat în Uniunea Sovietică, ci în Occident, unde fusese trimis pe ascuns, tipărit în Italia, tradus imediat în multe limbi şi cunoscând o răspândire uluitoare. Dar fusese interzis în Uniunea Sovietică pentru că, chipurile, denigra sistemul.
