În urmă cu circa un an, o serie de specialiști implicați în domeniul educației au recunoscut că, „în momentul de faţă, 42 la sută din elevi sunt «analfabeți funcţional», nu sunt capabili să facă raţionamente elementare, nu ştiu să folosească operaţiile matematice elementare atunci când se confruntă cu o situaţie din viaţa de zi cu zi“.
